Paint the Town Purple for Relay Cancer Walkers

  • May 3, 2012

With 287 Relay for Life participants set to walk all night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium on Friday, organizer and survivor Francine Van Wowk invites the community to show its support in the fight against cancer by wearing or hanging purple clothes or ribbons.

People can "hang a purple ribbon on their mailboxes, cars, store windows etc...

"Paint the town Purple!!!" she wrote in an email.

Dunedin Relay for Life has raised more than $37,000 and has 20 teams participating, according to an update from organizers this week.

Relay teams will camp in the stadium overnight taking turns walking for loved ones affected by cancer. The fundraiser supports people in the Dunedin community through the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
