Aaron Loup Saves Jays In Sweep Of Cubs

D-Jays lead Yankees by a game and a half after 7-5 win in Daytona.

The Dunedin Blue Jays made it three in a row in Daytona on Sunday (Aug. 21) to defeat the Cubs 7-5.

Lefthanded reliever Aaron Loup picked up his third save in the past week. He worked two shutout innings. The 23-year-old has not yielded a run in his last six appearances.

The Tulane University alum struggled in early 2011. Prior to the All-Star break his ERA was 7.39, but his post-All-Star ERA is 2.32.

The Jays rallied for three runs in the seventh after letting an early 3-0 lead slip away.

A two-out bloop single by Kevin Nolan scored two runs including the winner off Cubs closer Frank Batista.

The Cubs out hit the Jays 11-6, but Daytona pitchers walked seven Dunedin hitters.

Brian Van Kirk continued his hot bat with a double and a single, knocking in two runs. The leftfielder is the Jays only regular batting over .300.

On Deck: The Jays and the rest of the Florida State League have Monday (Aug. 21) off before a full slate of games on Tuesday.

Lakeland visit for the first of three games on Tuesday. 

Asher Wojciechowski, coming off his finest performance of the year, takes the mound for the D-Jays.

  • The Tampa Yankees remain only a game and half back of the Jays for first place in the FLS North Division.
  • Eric Arce of the Gulf Coast Blue Jays hit his 13th homer of the year on Saturday, which ties him for the league record in that department. The Tampa native has a week left in the GC season to set the record.
