Clearwater Man Killed in Overnight Crash on U.S. 19

Christopher Holly, 28, of Clearwater was trying to make a u-turn on U.S. 19 when his suv was hit by a car that ran a red light, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A Clearwater man was killed while making a u-turn on U.S. 19 early Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Investigators say Christopher Holly, 28, was driving northbound on U.S 19 and was attempting to make a u-turn at Republic Drive around 3:03 a.m. when his 2005 Nissan Xterra was hit by a 1999 Nissan Altima traveling southbound that ran a red light. The impact of the crash caused the Xterra to roll over.

Holly died at the scene.

Investigators say that Adrian David Rodriguez, 33, of Clearwater, was driving the Altima. He was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.

The accident remains under investigation.

I hate that intersection! When the overpass was put in they did not extend it far enough. Having a light at the bottom of a hill coming off a curve, with merging traffic and two side roads?????!!!! It's like something out of Mad magazine. While running the light is wrong, allowing a car to make a u-turn there is nuts, at night once the car is midway through the u-turn there are no headlights to warn oncoming traffic that you are there, but planners did not think of that, did they. Are we all in such a hurry that we have to run red lights? I know there are times when we are in emergency mode and are rushing but this is a good example what happens when you try to run a light. A person making a simple u-turn on a common road is killed because someone ran a light. This could have been anyone of us running the light or making the u-turn regardless neither life is the same this morning. My heart goes out to both families.

Bellavia - Rodriguez isn't a "wetback". Be angry, by all means. Saying that is warranted is beyond an understatement. Pmease don't be ignorant, too, by perpetuating racial stereotypes.

I've heard Chris was a great person. Sorry for your loss.

Mr. Bellavia,
I understand you lost a friend, but these two posts are how you are going to represent your friend who past? I feel said for our society when you have to use a term like the one you did in order to feel better about yourself. It shows low class and intelligence that you have to stoop to that in order to feel better about yourself. You aren't the only one who suddenly lost a friend this weekend.

The freedom of speech. I will not get into a pissing contest with you people but calling someone low class without even meeting them, ur a hippocrate for even stating that. Fuck you I will morn my friend however I want. Its people like you that stand up for the wrong people. I can call him what I want cause its my choice not yours, awww did I offend you well he offended me by breaking the law running a light and killing my friend, now shut up...

Mr. Bellavia,
I'm sorry for you loss, but obviously you need to read up on Freedom of Speech. Hate Speech is not covered. No one is excusing what he did, but doesn't make what you said right either. You can't call people hypocrites when you are proving them correct.

Ana Behouse and Michael D,
Thank you so much for your words, I agree with you and we feel sorry for their loss. But it has nothing to do with culture, still out there good people who are great citizen’s that make a difference in their community and they are foreigners.

Mr. Bellavia: Again you have every right to be beyond angry. No one is defending what happened. That said, telling people to shut up while you use the freedom of speech argument is rather hypocritical. Complaining about someone using the term "low class" when they haven't met the person, while using a racial slur in regards to someone you obviously do not know, does the same. My entire point was that you are misusing a racial slur simply based on a last name. It makes no sense. He's not a "wetback". It is as ignorant as if I decided your friend must have been drinking only because he was out driving at 3am. (To be clear - I'm not saying that at all.)

Be angry. You have every right. There aren't words enough to stress that. I truly cannot imagine what you're going through. But racial slurs? It reflects badly.

Again, I'm truly sorry for your loss.

Let's set this straight. The guy that is alive was drunk and running from the cops. Our friend was being responsible and coming back from dropping off another friend. Now he is no longer with us. God bless you and I pray you find your heart. You have NO idea what you're talking about!!!

Chris,
No one here is saying that Mr. Holly was drunk. Everyone here has also stated that Mr. Rodriquez was at fault for the accident. So what facts are you trying to get straight?
