This week, we thank Dee Dokumaci for her comment on Laundromat Owner Takes Stand Against Obama.

The story of a Dunedin business's sign opposing President Barack Obama's economic viewpoint stirred emotional comments on both sides of the political spectrum.

We appreciate Dee's call for respect and civility in response to a commenter who made criminal allegations about members belonging to a political party, calling them "murderers," "thieves" and "perverts."

She said:

... your mentality is not only one sided but also libelous again we come back to the same argument which is NAME CALLING & BASHING which I am so tired of seeing in these posts, I know what you are going to say next why don't you leave & not participate if you are tired of it, well excuse me for expressing my views which is my right to do so & I would like to point out I have never used profanity to put my point across, why can't we all have intelligent conversation & agree to disagree, have some RESPECT, why is that so hard to do, this goes for both parties if you are using foul language, I have no respect for you & that is my clear choice, if you don't like it that's your business!

We like to hear your stories and of course we greatly appreciate it when you agree to disagree in a respectful manner.

What do you think about her call for civility?

Dee,

GREAT GREAT COMMENTARY. Regardles of your our candidate, the crass and crude remarks that have been flying around are disgraceful. You called people out in a very police way; way to go. Thank you for your clarity, honesty, level headed and unbiased approach to this ongoing craziness about a profanity laced sign.

Hopefully, this too will give your business some free publcity.

Cecilia thank you so much, its a wonderful feeling to be kind, respectful & above all being honest, its the way I was brought up with good values, so I posted what I felt in my heart!
I appreciate your support with your kind & positive words, as for free publicity I seem to be getting a lot of that lately, I guess it's being at the right place at the right time :)

My thanks also. Never did I think that my first post on this article would be the beginning of so many good comments and so much hatred and one sided bigoted expressions by so many people.
Nice to see there is some civility left.
My neighbor is the exact opposite politically of me. She is quite elderly and does not like to drive with strangers. So when I found out how much she missed voting I started to drive her to the polls. Knowing that her vote cancelled out mine.
Worth it to help out someone else. She did not want to vote absentee ballot.
With all the hatred we are now seeing it is nice to see civility once in a while.

Dear DLC, I thank you for your kind words, you know best way to handle things is by continuing to invest & believe in yourself, those who are being disrespectful are only hurting themselves!
Remember these 5 important words that nobody can take away from you; Dream, Hope, Courage, Strength & Wisdom :)

Also how wonderful of you to help out your elderly neighbor, that sums it up kindness goes a long way even when we can agree to disagree!
Last week I was at a monthly women's club meeting discussing things we can do to help our community, it was a pleasant meeting exchanging great ideas when the meeting ended, one of the ladies started talking to me about First Lady Michelle Obama's speech, she said with a great speech like that everybody must reelect them now had I said something like that you can imagine the objections & rude remarks I would have gotten so I just smiled, wished her a wonderful evening & left :)

Katie, after reading all the posts I agree with you, Dee was the most civil, AWB and Jasminetea while they seem to be sparring a bit right now were both not far behind. While the Sign thing did seem to spark healthy debate it also seemed to bring out a lot of side attacks from people who seemed to join just to attack those who were trying to have a healthy talk. I guess this will never be avoided. I hope Dee, AWB, JasmineTea and others don't lose heart because healthy debate is the core of what makes us great!
