When it comes to wining and dining in Dunedin, you can be faced with some Major League choices.
Leave that to Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos.
The Blue Jays general manager gave The Toronto Star his picks for the best places in Dunedin, giving this Florida Spring Training city some great exposure in Canada's largest newspaper.
He said some nice things about Dunedin, though joking that when he first arrived here 10 years ago, “I didn’t know anything about Dunedin,” he told The Star.
He called Dunedin a "cute town," and mentions how the team stays at the Innisbrook in Palm Harbor for its Spring Training at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. (Toronto's pitchers and catchers report today, Feb. 12. The rest of the team should arrive by Saturday, Feb. 16.)
Did Anthopoulos' knock it out of the park with his best of Dunedin? Here are his choices, according to The Star:
- Bon Appetit and Best Western Yacht Harbor Inn—“It’s got a great waterfront setting."
- Casa Tina
- Kelly’s
- The Chic-A-Boom Room—“It’s a fun spot with a funny name.”
He also picked Iris's Family Restaurant as a nice breakfast and lunch spot, but the place has closed and will soon be The Home Plate. Expect to find out more about that change soon on Dunedin Patch.
So how did a Major League general manager's choices compare with Patch's Jeffrey Rosenfield's picks of where to eat during Blue Jays Spring Training for the fans? If you don't recall his best places from 2012, here they are, minus Jeff's pick for Iris's:

Well, both missed the most obvious place for baseball fans. The Dunedin Smokehouse! They have grabbed the award two years in a row @ The Florida Auto Exchange Stadium for THE BEST WINGS! It's also the only sports bar on the Downtown strip. Great BBQ!

They're both missing a few of the best casual places like Eddie's for wings and Juan's for mexican. And, a very BIG oversight - Cafe Alfresco for best all around atmosphere and quality food. I'm sure, I'm also missing some of my favorites - so many to enjoy and so little time.
