The Dunedin House of Beer was just named one of “America’s 100 Best Beer Bars,” according to DRAFT Magazine’s 2011 list.
It’s a huge honor, explained owner Andy Polce, to get a nod from a magazine that circulates to pubs and bars nationwide.
“For [people] to open it up and see that we’re in there is phenomenal,” Polce said as he stood behind his bar at the Dunedin House of Beer on a recent Tuesday afternoon.
DRAFT Magazine, which launched in September 2006, is a Colorado-based publication featuring craft beer-related content, reviews and news. The Dunedin House of Beer was one of three Florida beer bars, including the Oldsmar Tap House, which made it to the list. The news came as a surprise to Polce.
“I have no idea how they did that poll … when, or who emails letters … I don’t know. I’m curious,” he said.
The Dunedin House of Beer, tucked on a cozy corner-front on Broadway Boulevard and relatively new to the craft beer scene, will have been open two years next month. A Palm Harbor location opened on Sept. 2.
“We try to create a nice, warm, inviting feel. We’re unpretentious,” said Polce.
A sweet hoppy aroma isn’t the only thing that welcomes patrons. Polce, a Dunedin native, said that with 40 taps, three to eight new drafts are added daily, so the regulars always have something to anticipate.
“There’s always something new. … [And] you won’t see Bud on tap.”
