The Dunedin Housing Authority Agency 2012 plan is up for general review. The DHA is soliciting written, public comment on its five-year and annual plan through April 11.
The four-page draft includes goals for the continued leasing and maintaining of its two housing unit buildings (with 10 units each) on Lady Mary Drive, just outside Dunedin’s city limits in Clearwater. The affordable housing buildings, which were acquired in October 2010 and officially named Fairway Gardens I and II, will serve as Dunedin’s only affordable and public housing opportunities when the waiting list opens on Tuesday, March 1.
Five of the apartments are considered affordable housing, 15 are designated public housing units.
The property has undergone extensive renovation since October.
“We believe public housing should look better than any apartments in the community,” said DHA spokeswoman Audra Butler. “We want to elevate communities.”
The DHA plan up for comment and review describes a continuing pursuit to find more Dunedin properties for public and affordable housing. The plan also outlines the community’s needs, citing a 475-unit affordable housing development in Dunedin with a consistent waiting list.
