Dunedin Shares Recreation Resources with 3 Cities
Residents can now share recreation facilities and programs with Tarpon Springs, Oldsmar and Safety Harbor.
Dunedin residents can now get the “resident rate” for certain recreation programs through a partnership with three nearby North Pinellas cities.
City leaders decided on Feb. 2 to join an inter-city agreement with Safety Harbor, Oldsmar and Tarpon Springs that allows each others residents to participate in programs and use certain facilities that aren’t offered in his or her home city at the lower “resident rates.”
Vince Gizzi, city parks and recreation director, highlighted that those neighboring residents, none of whom have a city pool, could use Dunedin’s Highlander Pool and Sprayground, thus creating an opportunity for increasing city revenue.
Gizzi also said residents will be able to use their home city's rec ID card and he would create safeguards to prevent Dunedin residents from being crowded out of local programs with special pre-registration times.
Gizzi and Rob DiSpirito, city manager, told commissioners that they would monitor use of Dunedin's resources for any longterm benefits and concerns in an annual report.
Oldsmar and Safety Harbor began sharing recreation resources in 2008.
