Eggers Trails Hackworth in Mayor Money Race

Mayoral candidate Bob Hackworth has raised more than double incumbent Dave Eggers. Who's donating to who? Find out here.

In the showdown between past and present Dunedin mayors, candidate Bob Hackworth leads Dave Eggers in the money race.

With about seven days to go before the election, Hackworth has raised more than double that of incumbent Eggers. He's also outspent him by a wide margin.

Hackworth used nearly all of his $35,000 in contributions to launch a massive mailing campaign against the current mayor. A large chunk of his contributions came from more than $17,000 in loans to himself and several downtown investors and property owners near the Marina making the maximum contribution allowed under Florida law. The city is planning significant pedestrian improvements to the Marina waterfront

Eggers has raised nearly $15,000 in campaign contributions, with a bulk of his contributions coming from owners of family-run businesses.

Hackworth spent as many campaign dollars as Eggers has raised to launch a direct mailing assault, while Eggers has used his funds more modestly on direct mailing, spending about a third as much as Hackworth.

Mrs Clara, Bob Hackworth never left! He has been here all along fighting for Dunedin Citizens and business owners the whole time behind the scenes. Bob served us well and true before while in office. It was time to allow others to lead. Others have lead and other have failed. Which is the primary reason Bob is running now.
Mrs Arlene you are right the most qualified should be the winner! The most qualified in this case is Bob Hackworth. Bob has proven that you can keep taxes down while balancing the needs of the community, which is something our current commission seems to sorely lack 3-2. Bob will bring back that balance and keep petty bickering out of our City Hall.

Dunedin creates an atmosphere that attracts talented people in many professions. We must choose between two charming, experienced and capable candidates for Mayor, either our current mayor or our former mayor. While I cannot fault our current Mayor’s dedication and know many cities would feel lucky to have someone with half his talent and demeanor, our city’s path demands a leader with an aggressive sense of promotion and a vision of the future. Our current Mayor avoided making important decisions on equality, while turning down grants for electric charging systems, bicycle pathways and funding other inexpensive, forward looking, artistic endeavors that , in the past, made this city a magnet for tourists and residents.
Our former Mayor embraced, promoted and continues to champion these efforts.
I support Bob Hackworth for mayor

Do we really need charging stations?? When Dunedin has a true need for charging stations, I know Mr. Eggers would gladly oblige. As far as bicycle pathways...the town is full of them just about everywhere...sorry ONE was turned down on Pinehurst. Dunedin continues to be a great spot for tourists and residents. DAVE EGGERS for Mayor.....AGAIN!

Mrs Clara, once again Bob never left!

Mrs Lori, that's an interesting idea however very unlikely. Lets use Disney for an example. Walt did not stab a sign in the ground and expect millions to just show up! First he built a park then people came. Just like here, 30 electric cars will not clamor at city hall suddenly envoking our Mayor to cry eureka lets have charging stations! First you have them, then people use them. The kind of fore thought this takes is minimal yet seems to escape 3 out of 5 commissioners. Bring back the Mayor that had vision and knows how to lead!

Mr. Harris, I could not agree with you more! I know your family has been here since the 1930's and I am just a newcomer, with only being here in Dunedin for the 25 years but after talking to so many around town. I have to agree, this is one of the most dysfunctional groups of commissioners I have seen since moving here. Funny how clearly surrogates for the Mayor use terms like greener pastures when talking about Bob Hackworth? Is not Dunedin in Pinellas County anymore? Is not Dunedin in the District Bob ran for Congress? Would Bob Hackworth not have been representing us in both races he ran in? So In fact he did not leave but was trying to do even more for us.
Recently my husband and I looked into getting an electric car but the lack of support from our very own town was the tipping point to saying no for now. As for the Bike trails sure they are nice but when they don't connect in a meaningful manner, they are just here for show and become a dangerous path leading to nowhere. I am tired of the lack of leadership and I'm glad to support Bob Hackworth, I am also glad to be able to say I have never met him. I choose based on facts! Not gossip!

Mrs Clara, I don't know about you. My husband and I live here in Dunedin, as does my sister and her husband, my mother and father and one cousin. We are all full time residents! All of us feel the same way I do! Out with Egger's in with Bob Hackworth!
I believe Mr Barmore also lives here.
Mr Harris and his family has been here since the 1930's and I believe with the exception of 1-2 out of 15 all live in the city of Dunedin also. So what exactly are you trying to pull over peoples eyes now?

Clara Kiplinger????????? Funny but I don't see anyone registered in the entire county by the name of Clara Kiplinger. Isn't that odd.

As a registered Florida independent voter and Dunedin resident/homeowner, I can attest that Bob had no plans to seek political office- he was beseeched by many to do so because of the troublesome things occurring in our govt. that need cleaning up. And as a private citizen he was a real warrior for our neighborhood. I have personally witnessed abuse of authority by staff, deliberate misinformation being fed to citizens, likely abuse of the city's rules of conduct by Carson based on email evidence, and other stuff. Eggers, in my opinion has shown a lack of leadership and subordination to Carson's extreme libertarian agenda which has infuriated a lot of people. What Carson and Eggers have done to our waterfront because of their narrow political views, rather than what's best for the future of our community, is quite frankly a permanent disgrace. As a pragmatic conservative myself, I could never vote for either of them
