The Dunedin Smokehouse credits its great customer service to a team of employees who have been on board since the restaurant opened in 2010. From left, Joanna D'Ordine, John Johnson, René Johnson, Robert Pereira, Melissa DePaul, Jonathon Plichta and Pamela Kislow all help create a neighborly atmosphere at the restaurant.

Name of business: The Dunedin Smokehouse

Who is on the management team? Owners René and John Johnson, General Manager Melissa DePaul, Pit Master Rick Kanapik

When did the business open? November 2010 (The restaurant moved to 471 Main St. in April 2011.)

How long have you lived in the area?

The Johnsons are in the process of relocating to Dunedin from Odessa. The couple are planning a new retail-residential development near The Living Room (which they also own) and The Dunedin Smokehouse, and they plan to move into the space when it's ready.

What do you love about working in Dunedin?

"The sense of community," René Johnson said. In the current economy, "you don't just start a business and grow it without community support," she said, making note of strong partnerships between local businesses and the city.

"It's awesome that everyone supports each other," DePaul added.

What makes your customer service stand out?

"We have a good team," Johnson said, "and it's been the same people since the beginning."

Since the restaurant opened, the staff members have grown as a team, and the customers have become "like a little family," DePaul said. "That's Dunedin!"
