Five Things to Know Today: Wednesday, July 27

From bagpipes to dogs, everything you need to know before you finish your coffee.

1) Weather: Expect partly sunny skies, with a high near 89. It'll probably feel like 98, though, and there's a 60 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

2) Lowest Reported Gas Price: Fill up for $3.59 per gallon at the , 1621 Main St., according to TampaGasPrices.com.

3) Today is national Bagpipe Appreciation Day! In honor of the day, and because no one appreciates bagpipes more than Dunedin, Patch is featuring a City of Dunedin Pipe Band YouTube video (created by Tim Garren). It's a montage set to music from a competition earlier this month in New York.

4) Time to get signed up for another fun 5K! The third annual OktoBEERfest Dunedin Brewery 5K and 1 Mile Run is in the evening on Saturday, Oct. 1. Registration is open now. Cost is $30 (or $20 for the 1-miler) and includes a T-shirt and beer. (Must be at least 21 to get beer, though.)

5) Dunedin Doggie Rescue is in need of several foster families for an influx of medium-size rescues (that's 40- to 60-pound pups). The organization pays for all the food and provides the crate. If you think you can foster for a week, fill out a contact form from the group's website. A foster coordinator will contact you.
