Lawrence Wins In Return To Dunedin

Jays lose 2-1 and win 5-1 against Lakeland Flying Tigers.

The Dunedin Blue Jays split a doubleheader with the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Thursday (Aug. 25) at .

In game No. 1, the Jays were shut down by lefthanded pitcher Jared Wesson, who limited the Jays to three hits in six complete innings of work.

Tiger Avisail Garcia's two-run homer off Andrew Liebel in the fourth was the difference in the game. Unfortunately for the Jays and Liebel, a one-out error by sure handed shortstop Ryan Goins opened the door for the home run.

In game No. 2, Casey Lawrence, 23, made his return to the Florida State League a success. It was his third victory as a D-Jay. He is not overpowering but has tremendous location on his off-speed pitches.

The D-Jays will be looking to him as their ace down the stretch.

Cuban born Kenen Bailli hit his first professional homer and John Talley hit his 15th monster of the season over the administration buildings in right.

Notes: The Dunedin Blue Jays have sent starting pitchers Chad Jenkins, Deck McGuire, Nestor Molina and Drew Hutchison, also relievers Frank Gailey and Wes Etheridge to Double-A New Hampshire.

Molina and Hutchison, the most recent to leave the south, have performed spectacularly in the higher level.

  • Molina has made three starts. He's allowed just one earned run in 16 innings, struck out 24 batters and issued just one walk.
  • This year, Hutchison, 21, has now pitched for Lansing (Low A), Dunedin (High A) and New Hampshire (AA). Making his first start against the Trenton Yankees last evening, the native of Lakeland allowed the Yankees two hits in five scoreless innings.
