Leaders Lunch on Ozona Pig in Retreat on Dunedin's Future

After meaty discussion focused on Dunedin's future quality of life, city leaders lunched on pulled pork from Ozona Pig during Thursday's commission retreat.

Commissioners dined on a catered barbecue lunch from Ozona Pig in Palm Harbor after talk of possibly creating neighborhood enhancement programs using code enforcement fines for distressed Dunedin homes.
City staff spent $127.50 on Hickory Smoked Barbecue Picnic Pacs from the restaurant, which includes barbecue pulled pork, barbecue chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, and potato rolls, as well as $13.63 for bagged salad, dressing and apple stack cake from Publix at Granada Plaza, according to city receipts.
A continental breakfast of fruit salad, mini blueberry and cranberry-walnut muffins, and mini powdered sugar donuts was also provided before the 8:30 a.m. start time. Breakfast items cost the city $19.12 at Publix, according to city receipts.
Beverages, paper products and coffee came from city stock.
Use of the Elliot room was free, as were City Manager Rob DiSpirito's facilitation services, which would have cost about $1,400 to hire someone else, he said.
When city leaders returned from lunch, they tackled the issues of fostering better relationships with Dunedin's sister city Stirling, Scotland and its Major League Baseball partner Toronto, Canada, suggesting some taxpayer money be set aside in the budget for travel to those cities.
"Nothing wasteful," said Commissioner Ron Barnette, "but to be polite."
