Dunedin Man Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run

A man walked into the path of Scott A. Isenberg's pickup in Holiday and was hit, authorites say.

A Dunedin man has been charged in connection to a hit-and-run crash in Holiday that claimed a pedestrian’s life, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Holiday resident Joseph VanDoren, 31, was walking across U.S. 19 north of Beacon Square Drive around 9 p.m. on April 10 when he crossed into the path of an oncoming 2004 Ford pickup that was headed south on 19.

The pickup, driven by Scott A. Isenberg, of 827 Scotland St., Dunedin, hit VanDoren as he walked into the southbound outside lane.

The pickup then fled, according to the initial incident report.

VanDoren was taken to a hospital in Trinity, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash. He had not not used a crosswalk while walking across 19.

Scott was arrested Wednesday. He was charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.

Hopefully, the driver only gets charged with leaving the scene (unless there is more to it). People, they make crosswalks for a reason, USE THEM!!!

It is very hard to see on 19 at night if u dont use the cross walk. I feel bad for all involved sounds like an innocent accident. But in this litigious society we live in nothing is an accident.

I believe it to be your moral, and legal obligation to stop after colliding with a pedestrian. Why would you not stop and report the accident, unless you had something to hide. Your immediate actions could be responsible for saving the victim's life.

I bellieve it is your moral obligation if you know you hit someone? There have been a lot of times we all were driving and said what was that and keep going ( just speculating)..
