Nathalie Hernandez Pens Song of Hope for Dark Times
Dunedin High teen Nathalie Hernandez, who appeared in early episodes of NBC's "The Voice," recently penned a song in support of a children's hospital, but its lyrics also speak to the Dec. 14 Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy, her mother says.
Dunedin High teen Nathalie Hernandez's recent song was meant to inspire hope.
"Keep Smiling Child," a song she penned with Cole Holland, a young musician from Seattle, was originally intended to inspire hope in children's hearts at the largest pediatric hospital in Southern California: Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
But the young singer-songwriter's lyrics also speak to a nation grappling with the Dec. 14 tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, her mother Sherry Hernandez wrote to Dunedin Patch.
"Since the terrible tragedy in Connecticut, the words seem all the more relevant," Sherry Hernandez said.
Sometimes you feel you're the only one.
We forget together we're strong.
We forget we can make a change if we all lend a hand.
No one can stop the hope that we got.
Nathalie Hernandez appeared in early episodes of NBC's reality singing competition "The Voice." The 15-year-old lost in the "battle round," which aired Oct. 9, against a 24-year-old singer named Aquile.
Hernandez has continued to perform in the Tampa area, including the National Anthem at a recent Tampa Bay Buccaneers game.
