Nielsen Co. Moves Out of Dunedin Completely
The company recently announced it would move its call center employees to Oldsmar.
Nielsen Co. announced last week that it would not renew its lease with the city.
As a result, 850 employees at the Virginia Street call center will move to Neilsen’s headquarters in Oldsmar this September.
“Nielsen's departure from Dunedin started around eight years ago, when the company began relocating its headquarters to Oldsmar. To do so, the company shifted 1,600 employees from several Pinellas locations to the new Oldsmar facility,” the St. Petersburg Times reports.
The former headquarters on Patricia Avenue is still vacant.
Here's what some Dunedin Patch readers had to say about it:
"At a Government Affairs Committee meeting over a year ago, held at the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, our guest speaker was an official from Nielsen Media Research. She spoke about the upcoming lease and their desire to remain in Dunedin," Bill Coleman wrote on Patch. "Since then, was any effort made to keep them here? Any effort to make sure they were happy and satisfied? Were we lulled into complacency? Next is the Toronto Blue Jays. Their lease is coming up in less then four years. Are they being romanced by other communities?"
"Wake up Mr. or Mrs. Government....you say you are concerned about the future...if you do not entice companies like Nielsen to stay in our community, you are not in the real world," Carrie Joyce wrote on Patch.

So, what is the fate of the former Nielsen headquarters, come September - demolition and erection of a multiple dwelling structure? Also, was the decision to vacate the Patricia Avenue site made when new interests came on the scene, or weren't the new owners in the picture at that time, if, indeed, Nielsen is no longer Nielsen.

The decision to move the Call Center to Oldsmar may have more to do with the fact that there was ample empty space at the Brooker Creek Technology Center (which Nielsen owns). Why lease additional space when departments can be accommodated within owned space? Hopefully, the Call Center employees will not find it too difficult to make the 7 mile trek to Oldsmar. The Technology Ctr. is a very nice building and the businesses along Tampa Rd. will provide them with new and interesting choices.

Lot of revenue lost to local stores around Nielsen. Lots of people, are they ALL being
transferred, or are some losing jobs? Anyone know?

What about all of the Nielsen employess who made the original 7 mile trek to Oldsmar some with over 20 years of service that were dumped by the wayside and replaced with foriegn employees? Tthey Nielsen execs don't care who they leave in the dust, money is money and they don't care who gets hurts while they continue to line their pockets and live the high life. Good Riddence I say,

WRONG! Nielsen does not OWN the Oldsmar facility. It leases it. It was owned by the parent company VNU a few years back, but since then Nielsen is BROKE. Look it up, at the beginning of the year they were 8 BILLION in debt!!
