We have problerms at many crossroads with the Pinellas Trail. Whenever we are on Monroe and the Trail we have to assume the bikes won't stop for cars on Monroe. We shouldn't have to wait until there is a serious accident on Monroe or the other cross roads before either the bikes or the authorities take notice.

Good point. I was crossing there in my car just before 10:00am today, on my way to work. I stopped and waited for several bicycles, and began to go, but by that time, a family on bike, skateboard, and a young boy on a "big wheel" (very low bike) assumed that I was going to wait for them too. Of course I did, but I couldn't help but think that someone who was in a bigger rush might have driven through and a disaster may have occurred. I think that people on the trail should not always assume that drivers are going to sit and wait until everyone on the trail within a block in either direction to go through.
There are stop signs on the trail at every interesection, so common courtesy would be for people on the trail to stop so cars can take their turn as well.

Every crossing has stop signs for the bikers and walkers but rarely are they used, quite often the bikers assume you will stay stopped even though they are not at their stop sign yet and then get mad when you go ahead and pull forward. Just like Laurie, if I make eye contact and wave them through that is fine but so many seem to forget what a 4 way stop means, this is amplified when you place flashers on a busy road only feet away from a crosswalk at a light such as on Skinner.

I fully agree with the above comments. I'm an avid rider on the trail and never assume a vehicle is going to stop and as a car driver crossing the trail, I never assume a bicyclist is going to stop. Eye contact between car driver and bike rider is essential to negotiating who stops and who waits. My experience is that 99% of car drivers yield to the cyclist. Every cyclist should wave and smile showing their appreciation for this courtesy.
