Seventh Sun Microbrewery Opens Dec. 2

Owners of the back-to-basics brewery say their focus is on beer, not branding.

The process for opening an independent brewery these days takes longer than actually brewing the product does.

That's why  owner Justin Stange has been so anxious to open his microbrewery and start sharing his love of beer with other Dunedin visitors and residents.

On Friday evening, Stange's , as he and partner Devon Kreps will officially open the doors of their Broadway Boulevard brewhouse and welcome their first paying customers.

"We just got our manufacturers license to sell today," Stange said Thursday afternoon. "We won't be able to sell the first batch of our own beer until January, but we've been waiting for this day since June ... so it's been a long road to get to tomorrow."

Although there are quite a few breweries and beer bars in the area, including the  and , Seventh Sun isn't your typical beer house.

For starters there are no tables, no bar stools, no logos on the glassware, no sign marking the entrance and no televisions dotting the walls.

What the corner spot does offer is a cement bar poured by Justin and a friend of his, custom glass tap handles made by another of Strange's friends, a cozy yet open interior that should encourage socializing, and plenty of quality beer.

"We'll have 10 beers on tap and more in the bottle. We'll be featuring guest taps from all over Florida and abroad until our first batch is done fermenting," Stange says.

The reason for the lack of typical brewhouse fare is as simple as the decor: "We're all about the beer," Stange says. "It's more about the beer than the branding."
