The new captain at North District Station appears as promised at Thursday's public meeting to address or express law enforcement concerns.
Captain Glenn Luben's appearance is slated shortly after city leaders say goodbye to Dunedin's Pinellas County Sheriff's Office liaison Nancy Duggan, human resources director.
The 27-year city employee's last day was Jan. 22.
Luben's planned appearance is the first of many more the Sheriff's Office verbally promised to the city after commissioners asked for more face time in early December.
As part of the agreement, the Sheriff's Office will ensure someone attends Dunedin commission meetings on a quarterly basis (on the second meeting of the month), during a segment in the "Presentations" part of the agenda called "Sheriff's Corner."
"If they have an issue that they'd like to bring to the commission, if we — the commissioners — have a question, we can try to agendize that item under their corner ... ," Mayor Dave Eggers suggested in early December.
Eggers requested more oversight after grumblings about crime in Dunedin's southside neighborhoods.
"That's the largest contract in the city," he said Dec. 6. " ... And nobody really has any interaction here with them."
Luben replaced Capt. Bill Hagans at North District Station in late December. Hagans moved to the Investigative Operations Bureau.
Duggan's former Sheriff liaison responsibilities fall to Greg Rice, planning and development director.
Residents can attend at Dunedin City Hall or watch the meeting live beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Dunedin TV (Channel 615 for Bright House customers or Channel 15 for Knology and Verizon customers).
