Bascetti's Brings a Taste of Italy to Dunedin

Jimmy Stewart, owner of the popular Spoto's Steak Joint, recently opened a new restaurant on State Road 580 called Bascetti’s Italian Grille. The menu combines traditional and modern Italian cuisine.

When Jimmy Stewart does something food related, he does it the right way or he doesn’t do it at all.

That’s why, Stewart says, customers can expect a tantalizing selection of Italian dishes at Bascetti’s Italian Grille, the latest Main Street restaurant from the owner of Spoto’s the Steak Joint. It opened its doors on July 3, just a few blocks east of Spoto's in the 580 Plaza.

And although the eatery looks like a classic Italian restaurant, there are some items on the menu that your Sicilian grandma never made.

“I always wanted to do an Italian-themed restaurant. I love Italian food,” Stewart admits. “But I wanted to do fresh Italian cuisine with a twist.

“This place is nouveau Italian, staying with tradition but adding a new twist.”

The menu features traditional favorites, such as veal osso buco, wood fired pizzas, and handmade cannolis. Some of Stewart's "twists" include mozzarella spring rolls, chicken Vesuvio and a fire grilled Caesar salad. For dessert, the menu includes tiramisu and homemade cheesecake, appetizers such as antipasti misto.

Stewart says everything is made fresh daily on site, nothing is frozen or made from a can.

Adult beverages include 29 different wines by the glass, and a wide selection of domestic, imported and craft beers.

All of the food and drink can be enjoyed in an intimate setting. The cozy interior of Bascetti’s is dimly lit and classically decorated.

If you live in, around, or have any means to get to, Dunedin. GO! Yes, go to Dunedin and try one of the best new restaurants in the Bay area. Anyone who knows Jimmy's reputation when it comes to a unique culinary experience, will have no doubt that a trip to Bascetti's, will be an evening to remember. We have already been several times and tried several entrees and everything we've had, makes us anxious to go back again and try another interesting selection.
