Hi...Winning this would be so wonderful! Our family, in the past 19 months, has lost four family members. Although, we are blessed in knowing they are in a far better place, we still feel the sadness of missing them .We wouldn't have to travel far but to have a chance to enjoy some time together for fun would certainly aid our healing process. I'd love to rent a huge house big enough for all us, maybe at the beach, so we could watcch the evening sunsets together. I find nothing more healing that n hearing the ocean while watching the sun sizzle as it sets on top of the ocean!
Thank you, if for nothing else, but the opportunity of dreaming!

I coupon, buy BOGO, use extra bucks, whatever I can to save money. I only ever buy clothing that is on sale. We are also in the process of downsizing our home to save on expenses. My husband and I own a small business and have not had a real vacation in 15 years. Our daughter works full time while going to college and also really needs a vacation. We have been saving up to take her hiking in Yosemite, but we may have to wait until next year to have enough money. This would help us get there faster!

It is very difficult for us to save for "rainy" days. The only way we have finally figured out a way to save is on pay day we put x amount of dollars into the 4 savings accounts we have created. We have a vacation account, insurance savings account, home repairs, and our 30th anniversary savings account. We sat down and created a budget and decided how much we needed for our monthly bills and how much we needed for the above items. And then when a bill ones in, the money is taken out of the appropriate account. Let me tell you, the first time I could pay my insurance bill without worrying was super!

$500 only goes so far considering the cost of getting to a destination. We would use the money for a stay-cation, taking advantage of local restaurants, spending time at the Ringling which we so rarely do even though its so close, and renting a boat for a relaxing day on Sarasota's bays.

500 is kinda alot. I know we are going to disney next week and staying at fortwildrenss and my girl want to go to see the castle but going to the castle it would coast 500 for all of to go . so i told them maybe next time . so we are chillin in the campground. we haven't been to busch garden, sea world, because it cost 500 for us to go. Or even take a trip to St.augstine and teach my girls some history.

We would probably use the $500 to do some day trips to the parks. My nephew is coming to visit us this week and I would love to show him some of parks and fun things that we get to be near all the time!!

I would absolutely love to win, my kids (ages 5 and 6) have not been able to do anything this summer. We added a little one to our family last May and intended to take a few days as a family this year but were surprised this May as well with another bundle. Now with a 6, 5, 1, and 2 month old money is extra tight, my husband is going back to school and interning the next two summers so this was really our last chance to be together and do something as a family while school was out so. I know it would mean a lot to our older two to just do something as a family, however little it may be!

My mom has done real well with her chemo and radiation, and my daughter keeps saying she is going to take grandma to their special place now that she is feeling a bit better. Both are two of the most devoted princesses on earth.

In NY our water bottles and soda cans had a 5-cent deposit so every time we recycled these items we would put the money into a change jar. My husband and I would also deposit our spare change into this jar. We would start in January and in December/January during school break we would come to Florida for a vacation. This year in January we decided to use the money to move here instead of vacation here so no vacation for us. The move was so expensive that we have not really had a chance to explore much of this beautiful place we now call home. We would love to take the $500 and do a few things in our local neighborhood we have not had the chance to do and mabye go to St. Pete Beach for a weekend. This time of year the rates are down and now we can get the Florida resident discount so $500 might buy us a few extra days of vacationing!

W e do the change jar thing to save for vacations. There are 7 of us ( me, my husband, 4 girls and 1 boy ) We put all our change in jug and when we get enough we apply it towards something we all want to do. It takes a while though to save up - especially with the use of debir cards these days and not as much cash spending . We have not saved enough this year to go anywhere so 500$ would be a great addition to our jar , but if not we will continue to save and hopefully make plans for next summer !

Everybody knows about the Florida resident deals at Disney, but did you know that there are vacation club rentals available on resort properties for half price? Search for Daves Vacation Club (dvcrequest.com), and put in your dates for the points converter. I'm staying two nights at Animal Kingdom lodge for half of the book rate. There's also a Concierge level that includes food/drinks all day, but you need to plan at least 11 months in advance for that. I'm also taking advantage of the buy one day get a year promo for both Disney water parks. You can't beat these savings, and it will help us beat the heat! Looking forward to finding the magical kid in me again.

We wanted to save for a beach vacation, so I took a cleaned out peanut butter jar, put a picture inside of a great beach and palm tree, and we stuffed it with extra cash here and there starting a few months before school ended. I will admit to taking some cash out when I need it fast - school lunches, etc. But it was a fun way to save and we were inspired by the gorgeous beach picture to save!

Since being diagnosed with a progressive neurological condition, I have been unable to work, and money has been tight. We have 2 boys in college, and a 6 and 11 year old at home. We pinch pennies, clip coupons and conserve utilities to get by. My husband works full time, serves in the National Guard and is working on his masters degree. He works so hard for us and to be able to have a vacation anywhere for him to be able to relax and enjoy without worrying about the cost would be amazing! Also, my awesome kids have really stepped up to help when I'm having a hard time and they could really use a fun vacation too!

We keep a large jar and put all our loose change in there when we come home for the day. Every now and then we will throw in a 5 or 10 dollar bill. In the summer we roll it up, and it usually pays for the gas and food we need for a vacation, with some left over for fun!

Life has been hard and hectic for myself and my husband over the past two years.
He lost a job that he held for a long time, they no longer needed his services. After searching for a while for a new job he finally landed one 5 hours north of where we lived. He moved in with my mom and commuted 128 miles a day for work, until I could get our house packed up and sold, which separated us for 4 long months. After renting a house up here and house hunting, and finally securing a short sale home here in Land O Lakes, we are just trying to settle into a new life and a new routine. This has left no time for any kind of fun or just some plain relaxation time. It has been two long years since we've had a vacation. The kids are grown and we now have the freedom to do some travelling....if I win this, I would like to surprise my husband. I want to take this money and put it on a weeks long cruise somewhere in the Caribbean, I think he deserves it. Thank you for at least allowing me to dream for a bit....now back to painting and unpacking ;-0)

I happen to live in florida so that is a vacation in itself , having a yearly pass at Busch Gardens , & going to the beach is like my own mini vacation .. I cannot afford to really go anywhere else .. If there was one thing I could do for a vacation it would be a mini trip just to see my mom, she lives in Washington state , and is now in remission from cancer , Airline tickets are so much so been super hard to save .. so If for some reason I got picked to win ... I would definitively use part of that to see my mom .. I have had guilt issues that I haven't been able to go out there .. She means the world to me .!! To me that would be the best vacation in the world !! just to see her smile on her face ... we aren't getting any younger and she had us all in a scare over the past year .. Thank you for reading this and fingers are so very crossed !!!

We made some dietary changes this year that have allowed us to save on our grocery bill. We shop at farmer's markets now and by incorporating fruits and veggies into three meals a day, plus snacks, we're not spending very much on processed, packaged foods. It's probably saving us about 30% overall on our grocery bill and we're thrilled with how much better we feel! If we had an extra $500 to spend, we would purchase a Florida State Park annual pass and have plenty left over for several camping trips.

I have been on crutches for 18 months, so there hasn't been much vacationing since we moved here three years ago. We have a timeshare in Virginia we used to go to, but since gas got so expensive, we haven't gone. The extra cash would not only help with gas, it would allow us a week in the mountains, where I could actually walk around on my own two feet and we could enjoy the trip.

At the end of each day, empty your pockets or change purse into a jar. Never dip back into the jar and over the course of only a few months, you can save up hundreds of dollars and never really miss the change. Works for us. Last time, I waited a year and had over $1,200 saved up.

Always plan our trips at least six month in advance. Most hotels(resorts) only ask for the first nights stay to book a room. That gives you the rest of the time to save for the rest of the stay.ALWAYS ask for the Florida resident prices. Along with saving our change everyday, we also save all our ones. They add up quickly. If I were to win $500, I would take my daughter to the Keys for Hookka diving. It is her biggest dream right now. She loves the ocean and ALL the animals in it!

I try and take my kids to as many free or cheap events as possible... the free movies at the Groves, the $1 movies at Citrus Park, I have signed up for 2 free games of bowling each week (although we have only done that once), the free splash park in Dunedin, and I am always looking for deals at other places - like Target Tuesdays at Glazer's Children's museum, groupons for Clearwater Marine, etc. We also have passes to Busch Gardens and Sea World (I have the free preschool pass for one of them) and try to go to one of the parks at least once every other week (I have gone to BG and spent less than $5 because of refills on cups and popcorn).

She is the one in the house who watches what Mom and Dad spend at the stores! Kalynn watches prices! Shes doesnt mind shopping at thrift stores or outlets and this is a young girl of 13!! The oldest of four children, Cole, just recently graduated from high school and went on to become a Marine, we are so proud of him. Christian and Kyle are proud members of the ROTC in their school. I am a proud grandmother and know how hard both my son and his wife have worked not only one job but two to get this vacation. I would like to share this vacation saving tip with the readers of Patch since it has always helped me. I open a savings account at my local Land O Lakes credit union and deposit my loose change and $5.00 every Friday and before you know it you have some Vacation money ! Now what would I do with an extra $500 well thats easy, I would spend it locally here in the Lutz/Land o Lakes area first buy some new outfits to wear at consignment shops . Then every Friday night I would bring some friends and enjoy eating out at all the restaurants here in our hometown and do things that I find on Patch to spend the rest. Thanks again for the opportunity to explore and enjoy my own hometown

My best tip: Buy the Busch Gardens pay for a day and come back the rest of the year passes, then upgrade one of the passes for free parking. With four teenagers, the passes are a blessing. I'd fill up my jet ski and head to the water for some much needed adult fun time if I won the money.

Would love to have one last beach weekend before school starts. We took a vacation to the mountains in July. We set a budget, saved for it and it feels so good to come home to a paid-for vacation and not dreading the bills from a vacation that wasn't well planned.

My daughter and I just moved back in our mold condemned house after 6 months of cleaning it out. We love the half off depot coupons that allowed us to 'get away' for a night out and get a Brusters ice cream waffle cone. Or Living Social coupon that helped us forget about our living situation and take a whitewater rafting trip. How could we afford to go? Publix! buy $50 gas cards for $40!! We saved them up to take the best vacation ever! I would use the $500 at 'couponSeven.com and buy my daughter some nice school clothes and take a last minute vacation before school starts to one of the many available options thru Hotels.com.

I have always wanted to see a dolphin up close, and touch one...just to be near one...how amazing that would be! it would be something we would remember for all of our lives!! 54 years and have never seen a dolphin up close!

I've been trying to find a job for the past thirteen months since moving to Florida with a daughter and three grandchildren. It's been very challenging to say the least. With no income of my own coming in, and my daughter struggling to pay rent, utilities, feed the kids, and all the other "NEEDS" that come with trying to raise three children as a single parent, we are thankful for any and all help we can get, so it would definitely be a blessing to receive the five hundred dollars to buy toiletries, laundry supplies, gas for the car to get to places we NEED to go (church especially). We could all use a smile on our faces for a change. :)

This year we needed to cut back on our spending so we as a family focused on "day trip vacations". One day we took the kids to Ybor and showed them a "city experience". Another day we visited creative places in St. Petersburg with a museum visit and a pottery experience. The kids really enjoyed these adventures and we saved money by using discount voucher websites like GROUPON, HALF-OFF DEPOT, DEAL CHICKEN, LIVING SOCIAL AND CLDEALS. If we won we would spend the money buying more of these deals to fund day trips over winter break. I like being able to offer my children exposure to enriching activities on a budget. This practice also supports local businesses and helps me to find opportunities within my community I did not know were there.

We have a family of 4. My wife & I have government jobs; so the pay isn't great at all. With me being a teacher & not seeing a raise in 6 years makes it more difficult. We also pay daycare for our 2 children. So we really watch our spending. First & foremost save , save, save! Most banks have an available vacation account, where you may put away a portion of each paycheck. Putting a portion away each paycheck will help because you won't miss it as much. When it comes time for a vacation, you'll have a good portion already saved up. There are also many vacation saving websites out there such as Amazon, Living Social, Groupons, etc. There's also a little luck. Depending on your occupation, you may be eligible for discounts. Being a teacher, there are many. For example, we wanted to get a way for a small vacation in Orlando. I found a Hilton for $62 a night through fldoe teacher discount program. Also a little luck... we were able to score 4 Universal Studio tickets from relatives who had comp tickets they had won & weren't going to use them. So I was able to barter for them. Don't be afraid to ASK for free stuff! You never know if you don't ask....

Floridians can find much more satisfaction in a stay-cation than many others. Consider the fact that thousands of visitors pour into Florida each year. What have they come to see? If you try to see Florida through their eyes, you may find yourself ooohing and ahhhing just like they do. If I were to win this prize, I would take my son to Titusville for the bioluminescent kayak tour at the Haulover Canal Launch, and we would spend another day exploring the Kennedy Space Center. I happened upon a very low paying job and it just so happened that the owner of my complex in Orlando had a complex I transferred to in Dunedin. I had to leave that low paying job and take a contract job where I got no vacation time or benefits of any kind. I recently got a work from home job with benefits but won't get vacation time for another 9 months! I tell people I don't need a vacation because I already live in paradise! $500 would go a long way supporting the local economy in Dunedin and the surrounding cities!

There are so many possibilities... my family up north would be distraught if they found out I got some extra money and didn't use it to visit them (it's been a loooong time since I was able to go to MI to visit) so I guess I would have to keep it a secret
;-) LOL

St. Augustine is my favorite city in FL, so I think I would like to go up there. It is by far one of the most beautiful areas in the country. I love the history and the brick streets, the fort by the water.

Another possibility is visiting the keys. I have never been, and have always wanted to go. My birthday was a couple weeks ago and I had originally planned to visit the keys to celebrate but due some other situations I was unable to go. This would be a perfect birthday gift!

I would say that my best tip for saving up for anything, including summer fun, is to be intentional and use a budget. It helps to set a goal and put it in writing. Once you have determined how much you need, figure out how much you need to save each week or month. Then figure out what you can cut out of your current spending (dinner out, clothes shopping, etc.) or see if you can reduce some of your bills (shop car insurance rates or try to use less electricity).

I would use the prize money to take my family to the beach for a weekend. We have a 5 month old son and would love to get that first "toes in the sand" photo!

When I traveled through Europe I was on a shoestring budget. To minimize cost I took part in what's known as Couch Surfing, a program where you stay with people for free in each of the places you visit. There is an online social site that matches up potential surfers and hosts and you choose who you want to stay with based off their profile which explains their personality, background and surfing arrangement. The idea then is that you open your house to other surfers when you are not traveling.

While this may sound scary or horrifying to some people it is actually quite safe and extremely rewarding. You meet amazing people and gain a local perspective when you travel and you have such pride in your hometown when you host. By traveling this way I stayed on a sailboat in an Norweigan fjord for a week, a farmhouse in the Swiss Alps, and a University at the Vancouver Olympics. I have continued to use the site when I travel and have hosted some wonderful people. It saved money and allowed my first trip overseas to include 11 countries over a span of 2 months and I'm still in touch with some of the friends I made on that trip through Couch Surfing.

If I were to win the $500 I would take my boyfriend to Washington DC to help with his job search. He desperately needs a new job where he will be treated better. Combine play with work, another way to pinch a penny!

I'd give anything to visit my 3yr old grandson who was born and lives with my daughter on an island in Honduras. Due to legalities, he cannot leave the country w/o his fathers signature. Therefore, I have not seen my grandson in 2 1/2yrs.Sometimes I cry myself to sleep praying to God-please make a way for us to visit him. He is so precious. I am thankful for skype but it isn't the same as HOLDING,HUGGING,KISSING him! Luckily, 2 months ago, my daughter had to fly to Alaska for her job & they allowed her to stop in Tampa for 2 days - the 1st time I'd seen her in 2 1/2 yrs! I would love to hold her son/my grandson! Win $500, and my family would be buckled up in the car to explore as much of the beautiful state of Florida as every penny would allow. My kids often hear how lucky we are to live here because people wish, save, and dream to come here everyday. So, hold on kids here we go - to explore the treasures all around the state.
First, start in Tampa to Tallahassee, stopping by Weeki Wachee for a quick mermaid show. After a little state history in Tallahassee, we would look for a little nightly rest in one of the beautiful southern plantations. Next off for a full day of exploring in St. Augustine (via the beaches and sea shells of Jacksonville). I bet the kids would sleep well after a ghost tour! Sight seeing in the car next as we drive the eastern coast and make way to the Keys for the night - okay maybe two! Everglades on our way back to Sanibel for our favorite shelling ever! Treasures in tow back to Tampa.
What did I say kids, yes we are blessed that the military allowed us to live in the beautiful treasure chest of Florida and we have one week before school!! Get in the car - wait, do you have your shoes??

We've been purchasing gas cards ahead of time for our upcoming trip (using a $10 off coupon from a local supermarket). Not only is this helping to spread the cost out but since some gas stations have a different price for cash/credit, we can use the cards to get the cash price. Of course, we are already saving $10 on each $50 card so that helps too.

I was hoping I had a chance at winning and then to find out I had no chance at all. :( Well here was my entry, which is still over in the "official rules" section.....::sigh:: 'The best way for us to (try to) save up for summer fun is to have a yard sale. We try to do this every year, but this year my son learned about the concept of "paying it forward" and "good karma." Instead of a yard sale, he wanted to donate our items to help others in need. So we went to various charities throughout the area and donated toys, small appliances, and other various nick-nacks. He learned what it felt like to do good for his community. He loved it so much that he wants to do it again. I have to admit....I would love if some good karma came our way/his way!'
