Wojciechowski Lifted In First Against Yankees

Sean Ochinko's first-inning, two-run homer goes for not in Jays 6-4 loss.

What was expected to be a pitchers duel turned into an early slugfest.

On Saturday (June 25) both teams sent top pitchers to the hill — Asher Wojciechowski for the D-Jays and Josh Romanski for the Yankees. Neither pitcher saw the fourth inning and Wojciechowski didn't see the end of the first.

The Yankees came out ahead 6-4.

The Jays are relying on Wojciechowski, a Citadel alum, to be the third starter since the promotion of Chad Jenkins. However, the 22-year-old has not gone beyond the fourth inning in three of his last four starts. His ERA has ballooned to 5.86 on the year.

Sean Ochinko sent the Jays in flight early with a two-run homer, his 10th of the year.

The D-Jays remain on the road traveling to Daytona for a three-game series beginning Sunday (June 26).

The Daytona play-by-play personalilty listed a number of Cubs players that have been promoted to double-A. But as witnessed in their three-game series with Clearwater, this is a sound hitting and fielding team.

Notes: The Gulf Coast Blue Jays fell two games below .500, losing 3-1 in a rain-shortened game in Orlando to the Gulf Coast Braves. Deivy Estrada, 18, went the distance allowing only six hits and striking out seven. Former 2011 D-Jay Chad Jenkins continues to perform well in New Hampshire double-A. The native of Chattanooga, Tenn., is 1 and 1 in three starts, with a 4.05 ERA.
