Library Collects Underwear Donations for Charity

Teens can get some help from the Princeton Review at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the library. Call 727-298-3080, Ext. 240 to sign up to take a practice SAT. They will come back in October to give you your practice test score and go over ways to do better when you take the real SATs. It’s all free at the library!

Dunedin Public Library will host Walk to School Day for Dunedin Elementary and Dunedin Highland Middle School on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The elementary school will meet at the library at 7:15 a.m. and the middle school will meet at the library at 8:15 a.m. There will be some freebies and lots going on before all the students get together to walk to their respective schools. This is a nation wide event. We have had the elementary school many times in the past, however, this is the first year we will host both the elementary and middle schools. The parking lot is full of trucks to see up close and personal, we usually have a mascot or two running around and the library always has bags of goodies to hand out. Make sure to mark your calendars.

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. “How much does a library card cost?” I am asked this on a regular basis by kids of all ages. The answer: Just show your identification that proves you live in the county! Parents — a great way to have your kids claim some responsibility is to get them their own card. Parents or guardians must come with kids to get their own card. Teens 14 and older bring your school ID and something that shows your address where you live. A library card can open all kinds of new worlds up.

In October, the Dunedin Public Library Youth Services Department will be collecting new children’s underwear for Clothes to Kids. We collected 927 pairs last October — this year we want to collect at least 1,000! Clothes to Kids gives out five school outfits to children that need them — gently used clothing is okay, but children need new underpants! Bring a pair or a package in to the Youth Services Department from Sept. 24 until Oct. 24. Help us reach our goal of 1,000 pairs of new underpants for area school kids. All sizes of kids require all sizes of underwear so all sizes are needed. Don’t forget the tiny kids or the adult size middle schoolers!

My recommendation for a book this week is "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn. Our library assistant in the youth department read it and passed it on to me — she said it is very intense with a great twist that you don’t see coming ....
