It was Open Court at Curtis Fundamental Elementary School this past Friday morning.
It was a pleasure for Katherine Kastanis and me to attend this event and hand out certificates and congratulations to 15 or more students who spent their summer reading with us at the Library! Keep up the good work, kids! We had more than 300 children read with us in our Summer Reading program. Katherine sends letters to all the area elementary schools and lets the principals know the names of kids who read with us.
The Youth Services Department underwent a tremendous update this past week when we got our long-awaited new bling on our computer sand castles! Thank you to the Dunedin Friends of the Library for your generosity. Our lovely sand castles are now even more beautiful. What a wonderful place for people in Dunedin to come and enjoy themselves in our learning community.
Thanks to all who contributed back packs and school supplies! Your efforts have given many children a happy start to school this year.
With fall coming, we have many new books for you to come check out at the library! We get new arrivals all the time. Lorraine from the Adult Services Department has created a whimsical display of bird books and end-of-summer reads. We have added new shelving to the adult DVD section — a whole new section to make perusing the DVDs even more easy.
The Friends Bookstore is still having a half-off sale – Ginger and Dominic are also in the breezeway selling books cheap on Tuesdays when we show the movie. If you are looking for any particular genre or title, please ask and we will help you if we can.
As always, I suggest you take a few minutes for yourself this week and let yourself escape into a good book. I am reading “The History of Love,” a well written novel about two people of two generations, loneliness, and love.
