Coming Soon: Dollar General on Belcher Road

Construction of discount retail chain Dollar General's new location in Dunedin is nearly complete.

The latest discount retail chain store to join the Dunedin landscape is nearly complete. The up-and-coming Dollar General at 1260 Belcher Rd., near the corner of State Road 580, is constructed with faux windows that give it an upgraded, neighborhood feel when compared to the architecture style of the chain's base model.  Landscaping and road improvements were also made. The 9,100-square-foot store, which the city approved in October, is slated to receive interior work before it opens, possibly within the month.  Dollar General is also building at 1326 San Christopher Dr., where it replaces a boat and RV storage lot. Dunedin has one other Dollar General Store at Causeway Plaza. The stores carry school supplies, beach items, toys, toiletries…

Why would we need another Dollar General??? There is also one on Highland and Sunset Point in Clearwater which is still very close to Dunedin's Southside. So with San Christopher That would make 4 in a few mile radius. We also have Family Dollar Dollar Tree and several other smaller Discount/bargain store in town. Please, no more! I'd rather see the old storage lot, it was less of an eyesore than…   more ›

Wanted: Dunedin Businesses for Online Tourism Directory

Designers are hoping to create a database of tourism-based Dunedin businesses in time for the website's marketing launch in the fall, said Dan Zucker of Zucker & Zucker Marketing, the group designing the website. "We're off season right now," Zucker said. "So it's a good time to do this." The website is part of a big marketing push and the final phase of the city's branding campaign, for which the multi-colored "DUNEDIN" logo was designed and selected last year. A group, which includes Zucker, city staff, business people and other stakeholders, is steering the marketing push to promote tourism to Dunedin using a budget comprised of …

Raise a Mug at Dunedin's Breweries to Craft Beer Week

Dunedin's breweries are tapping a different, handcrafted beer every day this week. Wait till you try the unusual brew Thursday.

American Craft Beer Week is flying by, and a lot of locals did not even know it had arrived. From May 13-19, small and independent craft brewers in the U.S. are being recognized and celebrated. But there's still time to show your support and quaff a locally made brew. Dunedin Brewery, at 937 Douglas Ave., is making it easy. Each day this week, the local pub has been serving a different handcrafted beer. Today's offering sounds particularly intriguing: Calypso Ginger Brown Ale. In fact, if you pony up to the bar at lunchtime, the beer is on tap. According to the Brewery's Facebook page, "each of our brewers came up with a unique concoction to tap at the beginning of each day." Calypso Ginger is Ricky's brew. So when you hoist a mug, be sure…
