Holiday Conservation Celebration

The public is invited to the annual "Holiday Conservation Celebration" sponsored by the Pinellas Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society (FNPS). This free event will feature educational exhibits by local environmental organizations, festive refreshments, a silent auction of giftable nature-themed items, and a special presentation titled "Today’s Preserves Tomorrow" on the future of conservation lands in Florida by Kevin Love.

Mr. Love is Vice-chair of the FNPS Land Partners Committee and serves as the FNPS liaison to the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD). He worked in the Land Management section of the SWFWMD for 35 years, the last 25 as Land Manager. He was responsible for the management of over 350,000 acres of preserves in west central Florida, including prescribed burning, restoration, exotics control, timber management, use and management planning and public use administration. He retired in February, 2012. He is now Director of Land Management with Wildland Resources Inc.

The Pinellas County Extension serves as a bridge between the University of Florida's research labs and Pinellas County government. The extension office offers resources to residents on agriculture, plants, and sustainable living. There is also a host of classes for free and at affordable prices. A staff horticulturist is on site to answer questions regarding lawn and garden. This is not just a resource center, the botanical gardens is a great place to spend the afternoon admiring nature and photographing wildlife.
