Uphill battles are never fun but worth fighting!

A tough look at what some trusted corporations are doing for the almighty dollar!

This morning was no different from any other morning. I got up, made lunches for the kids, made some coffee and checked out the news. After a bit, I checked emails and listened to messages and then relaxed while I caught up on Twitter. I came across a tweet with a link to a boycott list related to Monsanto (the round-up company), now I have gotten these before and admittedly not given it the attention it deserves but this list seemed to really hit me, so let me explain.

As I sat their drinking my coffee, it hit me that 75-80% of the companies on this list were in my house. I started going down the list checking each company to verify that they had direct ties to Monsanto and/or GMO issues and yes every one of them did! One that really hit home was Phillip Morris because I still smoke. Another that got me was Heinz. Heinz, I always thought was as American as it could get? Lipton Tea???? I drink a half gallon a day. I am all for standing up for whats right but this was going to be really, really hard.

It was interesting when I went through the list, researching each companies background and history. I found with most of them they had a common thread or story line. They started small, put out or produced a quality product and at some point in their growth, profits became more important than people. They started using High-Fructose corn syrup instead of sugar because it was a little cheaper, they started using byproducts that had been engineered to do things nature did not do, which breaks the circle of growth patterns but its cheaper. The short cuts were very clear and you don't have to be a scientist to figure it out. You just have to take the time to read it. All of these companies have crawled into bed with a monster, Monsanto.

As usual, we tend to fall behind our friends in Europe. They tend to figure out things quicker than us and correct it, while we love to churn down the road of disaster, always bringing ourselves to the very edge before making a correction. This time may be different because it's our food we're talking about! We may just eat our way into the ground. A warning came out, not long ago about Orange Blossom Honey. How it was wise to avoid it because the chemicals on the ground and in the orange trees were being carried back to the bee hives and directly going into the honey! Did you know honey has been found in containers located in the Egyptian pyramids that was still good! Only here in America could we screw up one of the earths most perfect foods.

Instead of fixing the problem companies are working on how to grow crops without bees! You know, you don't have to be a naturalist or activist or a scientist to know this is wrong. This is not the first time we have almost killed ourselves through destroying the land. Remember the dust bowl? It's primary cause was poor farming habits. We changed the way we farm to better be in tune with the earth and no more dust bowl. However, the thing that is different now is we have corporations running the show. Corporations are not people they are unfeeling machines that could care less what political party you are in or for. They could care less about your kids well being because they know we will just have more kids.

Here is the list I that was on line this morning:

These companies are in control of their own destiny whether they realize it or not. They have the chance to do the right thing. They have the chance to make things better. By acting responsible it actually will create more jobs and increase their profit margins but they are currently convinced that cheaper is better and that we do not and will not care. Don't waste time feeling sorry for any of these companies. They all have boards that run them and have made their choices with full knowledge of the facts. So many of these companies I grew up loving and depending on and so many of them used to be honorable.

The definition of honorable has not changed but they have.

But hey! what do I know! I'm just a plumber!
