Help Give 'Golf Cart Jingle Tour' a Festive Debut

The community group, Dunedin Goes Carting!, is arranging Dunedin's first annual Jingle Tour.

The "Dunedin Goes Carting!" community group is arranging Dunedin’s first Jingle Tour.

The Jingle Tour is where friends and neighbors gather with their golf carts then tour certain Dunedin neighborhoods that typically have beautiful Christmas light displays. What better way to cruise different light displays than on your golf cart in our own home town. And since the legal golf cart zone now covers about 70 percent of Dunedin, you can cover a lot of ground.

Participants are encouraged to decorate their carts, bring their families - some will even bring their dogs and dress up in holiday garb.

Since this is a first-time, informal event we are assembling the concept now. We are looking for at least one or two volunteers to help map out a best “route.” These volunteers would be asked to check out local neighborhoods in advance to find the best decorated homes, then arrange the route into a map where a large group of golf carts can safely and legally navigate with the least disruption to low-volume traffic.

Because Dunedin’s Golf Cart zones are divided in two by State Road 580, we are currently working with the Sheriff's Department to see if they would provide us one deputy’s assistance for crossing this road at a specific location at specific hours for this one-evening event.

The following details have been suggested and, depending on comments and participation, may gel into our final plans:

  • Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, 7 p.m.
  • Assemble at the public parking lot across from Casa Tina’s Restaurant

More details are available at our community group’s web site:

Rosie's Tavern and Dragonfly garden has invited the group to assemble at their businesses to help avoid possible congestion at the public parking area. So the meeting place has changed to that location.

With our nations' urgent need to overhaul the health care system and each persons' need to deal withRead More increasing health care costs/decreasing quality of care, volunteering for SHINE could be part of the answer. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make postive changes for yourself and others. If, like me, you feel frustrated with the FL Legislature which seems to be working against us rather than for us; volunteering with organizations that educate the public in essential areas of concern can be an effective way to create grassroots changes. SHINE offers exceptional training and effectively updates it's volunteers regarding changes in the healthcare system. Sign up for thier training and you're sure to want to pass on what you learn to others.
