Bicycle Etiquette: Is Courtesy Needed on Dunedin Causeway?

'Until the time comes when a seperate lane is established for bikers and walkers/runners, please please alert walkers when you are about to pass them,' one reader urges.

A Dunedin Patch reader is urging fellow residents who bicycle to be more courteous to pedestrians and runners on the trail leading to Honeymoon Island.

"Until the time comes when a seperate lane is established for bikers and walkers/runners, please please alert walkers when you are about to pass them," writes bjlev4, who suggests that bikers take more care.

The writer, who's a self-described "frequent walker on the causeway," seems to know from experience.

Suggestions include a bell or a simple "Hey, there, passing on the right!" when approaching a person walking or jogging.

"I've witnessed many near misses between bikes and pedestrians," the writer proffers in this politely worded reproach.

What do you think? Have you witnessed or experienced a near collision with bicyclists while walking or jogging along Dunedin Causeway? Let us know in the comments below!
