'Celebration of Life' Set for Dunedin Soldier Zack Shannon

After returning from meeting their son's remains in Delaware, Spc. Zack Shannon's family announced plans for a celebration of his life March 24 at VFW Post 2550 in Dunedin.

Longtime family friends arrived at the home of Spc. Zack Shannon's parents in Fairway Estates with baked ziti and salad Saturday.

The family returned from meeting Zack's remains after they arrived on U.S. soil at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware this week. His family returned to Dunedin late Thursday, to get plans underway for his burial and memorial services.

Spc. Zack Shannon, 21, died when his helicopter went down during a night vision operation in Kandahar, Afghanistan, Monday.

Kim Allison, Zack's mother, and Chip Allison, his step-father, met with Mayor Dave Eggers in their living room Saturday, along with some TV news crews.

A celebration of Zack's life is planned for Sunday, March 24, at the VFW Post 2550. It is noon to 6 p.m. and is open to any friends and family.

"It's a whirlwind," Kim Allison said.
