Dunedin Pastrami-Eating Contest Postponed

Saul Shwarztein, owner of Dunedin Bagels & Deli, confirmed that the pastrami-eating contest planned for Saturday in Pioneer Park is postponed until further notice.

Pastrami fans must wait, owner of Dunedin Bagels & Deli Saul Shwarztein said Thursday afternoon.

Planning for the second annual amateur pastrami-eating contest, a benefit for the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, that he had planned for Saturday, Feb. 23 at Pioneer Park became too overwhelming without his wife's help, he said, confirming that he is looking at future dates.

His wife, who usually runs operations at the store is traveling, he said.

Shwarztein said rather than try to put on the event half-heartedly, he'd rather wait and do it right.

The contest for the fastest man or woman to devour three-and-a-half pounds of pastrami (or come the closest) is awarded bragging rights and a prize package.
