Dunedin Spc. Zack Shannon Honored In Purple Heart Ceremony

Dunedin's Purple Heart Recognition Day Ceremony downtown Wednesday honored U.S. service members who've shed blood in defense of their country.

Although, Dunedin soldier, Spc. Zack Shannon, was not a Purple Heart recipient, he was honored as a hero Wednesday by Mayor Dave Eggers.

Shannon, 21, a Dunedin High grad, died when his helicopter went down March 11 during a night vision operation in Afghanistan.

Both his parents, Kim and Chip Allison, were in attendance.
