Dunedin Woman Delivers Unexpected Valentine's Day Songs and Surprises

Toast of Tampa Show Chorus singers are delivering Singing Valentine songs through Feb. 15.

A Dunedin woman is among singers who brought the spirit of love to people on Valentine's Day through song.

The Toast of Tampa Show Chorus, made up of more than 100 women of all ages, sent 12 quartets throughout the Tampa Bay community Feb. 14 to deliver Singing Valentines.

They did the same on Feb. 13 and will be around Feb. 15, too.

“It’s so much fun,” said Beth Curts of Temple Terrace.

“Especially when they don’t expect it,” added Julie Kelly of New Tampa.

Curts and Kelly joined Barbara Elmquist of Dunedin and Cheri McCartney of Lakeland to form a quartet.

They started their day singing to former Temple Terrace Mayor George Fee at First Watch Restaurant, and then traveled to Woodmont Charter School, and other locations in Temple Terrace, New Tampa, South Tampa, Brandon and Largo.

Although the Singing Valentines cost $10 to $50 each, the quartet admitted they couldn’t help but throw in some freebies to those who showed them random acts of kindness.

At the Grow Financial headquarters in Brandon, a security guard gave the quartet two big umbrellas when it started to rain. Curts said they thought the umbrellas were loaners, but the security guard said they could keep them.

“So, of course, we had to sing to him,” she said. “He was not expecting that.”

They said Singing Valentine recipients were grateful for the gift. Some sang along; others teared up.

“It’s very touching,” Kelly said.

The chorus is still taking Singing Valentine orders. To place yours, visit the Toast of Tampa Show Chorus website, or call 813-963-7464.

The chorus rehearses at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Temple Terrace on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. Visitors are welcome.
