Dunedin Woman Visits Tornado-Devastated Hometown

Nichole Gust, who recently moved to Dunedin, shared her account of tornado devastation from Joplin, Mo., on Bay News 9.

A Dunedin transplant from a Missouri town pummeled by a May 22 tornado shared news of a recent visit on Bay News 9 Thursday.

Nichole Gust of Joplin, Mo., returned to her devastated hometown after the tornado hit, according to a June 2 Bay News 9 report by Melissa Eichman. Gust said she lost some friends to the tornado. Her family is OK, but her brother lost everything, she said in the report.

The tornado's death toll is up to 138 people, according to media reports. It is being called the deadliest tornado in the United States since 1950. About 8,500 buildings, homes or properties were destroyed.

Gust, who moved to Dunedin recently, said she intends to return to Joplin as frequently as possible to help her town recover.
