Family, Friends Remember 'Quick Nick's' Son Gus Chaconas

Gus Chaconas is remembered by many as a fun, welcoming and loveable friend.

He could make anyone laugh and made sure everyone felt included, friends say.

The beloved son of the former Quick Nick's gas station manager will be laid to rest Monday, with a closed-casket viewing on Sunday, according to family.

"We're doing as well as we can," Gus's sister Demi Steele of Oldsmar said Wednesday.

Chaconas, 26, was killed in a crash March 3 in St. Petersburg. He was driving the wrong way on Interstate 275 when he collided with a Toyota Solara, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Steele said his funeral arrangements are as follows:

• Viewing (Closed-Casket): 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 10 at Dobies Funeral Home, 701 E Tarpon Ave‎, Tarpon Springs
• Funeral Service, with Burial to Follow Nearby: 11 a.m. on Monday, March 11 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 348 N Pinellas Ave, Tarpon Springs

Gus, his father Nick Chaconas, and several other employees who were "like family" ran Quick Nick's gas station and convenience store in downtown Dunedin for the better part of 27 years. 

Gus worked in the store most of the time since he was a kid.

The business now operates as a Marathon gas station under different management. The property is owned by his grandmother Angeline Chaconas, according to county records.
