Five Things to Know Today

It's Cinco de Mayo. Tip: Read these before the margaritas.

  1. Expect mostly sunny skies, with a high near 83, according to the National Weather Service. Could be gusty for you Causeway runners. Prevent cancer. Lube up with sunscreen if you're outside!
  2. It's a special Cinco de Mayo Thirsty Thursday at . Watch the D-Jays and enjoy $3 Blue Jay Margaritas and Coronas (in addition to the normal special: $1 beers and sodas). Game starts at 7 p.m.
  3. is the place to be for Cinco de Mayo (5 to 11 p.m.). The party spills out into Main Street — complete with a 10-piece salsa band, , salsa dance lessons and cirque performances. Other specials and parties going on around town: Dunedin Smokehouse, Olde Bay Cafe & Dunedin Fish Market...
  4. Relay for Life is tomorrow. Your friendly, neighborhood Dunedin Patch editor will be volunteering at the event. She strongly suggests attending this worthwhile cause (there's things to do for you and the kids, even if you aren't walking). It raises money for cancer patients in our own community. Starts at 6 p.m.
  5. Remember our sixth-grade Jessica Hamacher and Jaime Kay? They put together a historical play about the potato famine in Ireland that won a countywide competition. Well, they took their mini-musical to the state competition in Tallahassee — competing against 33 other counties — and WON! The girls go off to the national competition in Washington, D.C. this June. Congrats!
