Five Things to Know Today: Thursday, Sept. 8

Here are Five Things to Know Today for Dunedin residents on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011. One more day for the weekend!

Here are Five Things To Know for Dunedin residents as we inch closer to the weekend. See how quick weeks go by when that awful workday known as "Monday" is deleted?

1. Today's weather?: Per the National Weather Service, it appears to be another rainy day. Rain or thunderstorms are expected as you make your way to work. High will be 86 and there is a 60 percent chance of rain this afternoon. Rains could be in excess of an inch.

2. Need to fill up on the cheap?: Dunedin residents can find some inexpensive gas at several places today. There are three locations with gas for $3.49 a gallon as of Wednesday night. Rally at 1621 Main St., Super Shop at 1001 Broadway and Dodge's Store at 466 Patricia Ave. each have the same price of gas.

3. Free coffee for teachers: Starbucks is offering teachers a free cup of coffee until 9 a.m. each Monday through September. Only thing a teacher needs to do is to show their teacher's identification. Just what a stressed teacher needs to face a classroom full of hyper students: Hot java!

4. City commission meeting: The Dunedin city commission will have its twice-monthly meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the city hall chambers. Among the topics on the agenda is the budget for the 2012 fiscal year and various utility rates.

5. The NFL returns! America's Game, the NFL, returns tonight after an offseason of labor strife when the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers host the 2009 Super Bowl champs, the New Orleans Saints. The game will be broadcast onf WFLA-TV Channel 8 at 7:30 p.m. For men, the season couldn't come soon enough. For women, it's a nightmare each weekend lasting until February.
