Oranges of Dunedin: Show Us Your Citrus

To get ready for this year's Orange Festival, we're getting into the citrus spirit with this fun community game.

In anticipation of Dunedin's Orange Festival, we're starting a game called "Oranges of Dunedin: Show Us Your Citrus."

The third annual Dunedin Orange Festival, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 6 at at Edgewater Park, features a mojo cook-off, vendors, live music, kids activities, a dunk tank and so much more.

Dunedin artist Steve Spathelf, inspired by fruit crate labels, spearheaded the festival as a way to pay homage to Dunedin's rich citrus history. It became a summer tradition among downtown merchants with the first one on July 3, 2010.

Spathelf is the artist behind the orange murals on more than 100 buildings around town. He's nearing the 200 mark, Spathelf said recently. (Phew! That's a lot of oranges.)

So, to get ready for this year's event and for Spathelf's No. 200 milestone, we're getting into the citrus spirit with this fun community game.

Here's how it works:

Just snap a photo of one of Spathelf's oranges when you're out and about and share it on the "Oranges of Dunedin" Board. Don't forget to tell us where it is! Let's see if we can collect them all.
