The Littlest House on the Trail: Guess What's Inside

The ribbon cutting was to celebrate the vistas that this tiny house offers those who take a look inside.

Take a book. Leave a book. Share a book, too.

That is the idea behind this little wooden house perched on a pole on the trail near Main Street.

Actually, the little wooden house is the city's first Little Library Box, a simple idea that may yield rich rewards for users.

Open the box and take a book. Perhaps leave behind a book, too.

The box is there for people to share books using the honor system. (Think of book-sharing as another way to recycle, too!)

The first Little Library Box is expected to be the gift that keeps giving to those who participate.

Users can enjoy the excitement of sharing a favorite book collecting dust on the shelf. There also is the mystery and wonder of discovering a good read that someone left behind.

Residents on Facebook were eager to start using the Little Library Box, when photos from the ribbon-cutting were posted last week:

  • Judy Morris Long wrote: "Such a wonderful idea. Glad Dunedin is participating in this project. I will certainly put books in the box regularly. Hope a lot of people do the same. Good luck with it!!!!"
  • David DeRousse noted: "Great idea. I love small townish stuff. Read!"

The Friends of the Dunedin Library, the Dunedin Library, the folks at the city and volunteers made the book drop possible.

Have you taken a peek inside the Little Library Box? Did you share a book?
