Tropical Storm Irene Could Impact Us Later In The Week

Here's something to keep in the back of your mind as you make plans for later this week; Tropical Storm Irene could impact our weather here in Dunedin.

Tropical storm and hurricane conditions are expected in the southwest Atlantic including the Bahamas Wednesday through Friday, according to a 5:30 p.m. Aug. 21 National Weather Service Hurricane Warning.

The projected path released by the National Weather Service shows the storm impacting Puerto Rico Monday, Haiti on Tuesday, and taking aim for Cuba Thursday.

The cone of probability shows Irene impacting southern and central Florida Friday.

The center of Irene is near St. Criox and tropical storm warnings are in place for St. Martin and St. Barthelemy as of 5 p.m. Aug. 21.

"Irene is gradually becoming better organized in its appearance on satellite images," according to the National Weather Service forecast discussion. "With curved bands becoming better defined."

Irene could strengthen or weaken depending on if the storm makes landfall or not, according to the discussion.
