VFW to Name Post for Fallen Soldier Zack Shannon

Dunedin Veterans of Foreign Wars members plan to name their hall for fallen soldier Spc. Zack Shannon, Commander Dutch Grubbs announced recently.

Dunedin fallen soldier Zack Shannon's name won't soon be forgotten.

Local Veterans of Foreign Wars members are making sure of that.

Soon, the network of local war veterans will name their post after him.

It is a move that has been in the works, but Commander Dutch Grubbs made the news public for the first time at a recent city commission meeting.

And, pending a June 9 membership vote, which he expects to sail through with overwhelming approval, the VFW Dunedin-Palm Harbor VFW Post 2550 will be renamed the "Zachary L. Shannon Memorial Post 2550," Grubbs said.

Grubbs said he is aiming for a dedication of the newly-renamed post around Veterans Day.

Army Spc. Zack Shannon, a Dunedin High grad, died March 11 when his helicopter went down during a night vision exercise in Afghanistan.

He was 21.
