Weekend events in the Tampa area are all about squeezing the most out of the last days of summer break.

Back to School Shopping: Tax Free

  • Where/When: Your local stores. Friday, Aug. 12 through Sunday, Aug. 14
  • Why Go? No sales tax will be collected on clothing, footwear, certain accessories priced $75 or less, or on certain school supplies selling for $15 or less.
  • Pricing: Save sales tax on purchases for back-to-school items

Back-to-School Fair

  • Where/When: Glazer Children's Museum, 110 W Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa; Saturday, Aug. 13 at 9 a.m.
  • Why Go? Experience live entertainment, games, arts and crafts, as well as informative workshops and speakers.
  • Pricing: $5

Summer Camp in the Kitchen

  • Where/When: Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center
    550 Laura Lane, Dunedin; starts Monday, Aug. 15 at 9 a.m.
  • Why Go? Let your kids ages 8 to 15 experience the love and art of cooking in this one-week camp in which they learn meal-planning, safety and sanitation. Maybe they can start making their own lunches.
  • Pricing: $185 for week-long camp
