Artist Receives 'Distinction' In Juried Pastel Art Show

Three artists were awarded in the ’s juried “” exhibition this week.

• Longtime New Port Richey-area artist Nick Sacripante took the show’s highest honor, the Award of Excellence, with his drawing titled “Sisters.”
• Brooke Allison of Dunedin received the Award of Distinction for her work, “Wild Flowers.” Her work is being featured in a solo exhibition, “Brooke Allison: A Retrospective,” in a neighboring gallery. Allison is a Dunedin Fine Art Center faculty member and a master pastelist. Her solo exhibit features paintings and pastel works that span more than 40 years. Allison is credited with founding the Pastel Society of Tampa Bay in 2006. At the present time, she is the advisor for its board of directors.
• Kris Gregg received the Pastel Society of America Award for “In My Shoes 1.”

The Pastel Society of Tampa Bay organized the exhibition. It featured 65 contemporary pastel works from artists all over the southeastern United States, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The exhibit was judged and juried by internationally known Master Pastelist Doug Dawson.

The “Possibilities in Pastels V” exhibit runs through June 26.

According to a press release from the Dunedin Fine Art Center, merit awards were also given to:

• Lynn Wilcox for “Three Apples,”
• June Harben for “Secrets,”
• Karen Baker for “Immanuel,”
• Noriko Kuehn for “Koi Pond #2” and
• Cheryl Yellowhawk for “Hibiscus Glow II Yellow.”
