Artistic Quilts On Display at Dunedin Fine Art Center

The latest Dunedin Fine Art Center exhibit features quilted works from around the world. It runs through Aug. 11.

The work of quilters around the world go on display at Dunedin Fine Art Center today. 

"These are not your grandmother’s quilts," a news release from the Fine Art Center says.

The three-part quilt exhibit features stitched fabric masterpieces from around the globe. It runs through Aug. 11. According to Dunedin Fine Art Center, the three galleries, each with a different theme, include the following:

  • "Quilt National: 2011" displays 25 heritage quilts selected from 1,000 entries from 22 countries and 46 states. "Many of the works hold fast to the traditional methods of piecing and patching," but use the newest materials and technologies to help promote modern quilting as an art form. This part of the exhibit is sponsored by Rainbow’s End and Bright House Networks.
  • "Betty Busby: Unseen" displays the works of a renowned artist quilter from New Mexico who magnifies microscopic patterns. It is in the Douglas-Whitley Gallery. Busby leads a gallery talk at 6 p.m. today (May 31) and a two-day workshop on multimedia quilting June 1 and 2.
  • "Masterpieces: IQ Quilters" is considered a "challenge" exhibit, in which IQ quilters challenged themselves to interpret art masterpieces in fabric form. They also donated smaller quilts to a silent auction benefiting Fine Art Center education programs. The exhibit is in the Meta Brown Gallery.
