Student Takes Third at Teen Idol Competition

Nine teens performed in front of family and friends for a chance at the title of "Teen Idol."

Nine contestants sang their hearts out in front of family and friends on Friday evening for a shot at Dunedin's 2011 Teen Idol title.

Prizes included packages from Best Buy, a guided tour of the Fox 13 studio and an invitation to sing the National Anthem at a game.

The teens from all over Pinellas County were narrowed down from 30 during a previous audition. The two-hour competition at the came away with three winners:

  • Macy Marshburn of for third place,
  • Jillian Stein of Countryside High School for second and
  • Vonabell Sherman, who is home-schooled, for first.

Three judges, experienced in the industry, narrowed the nine contestants down to five: Macy Marshburn, Nathalie Hernandez, Sheldon Steele, Vonabell Sherman and Jillian Stein. Sherman took home the title and earned a spot singing the National Anthem at .

Russell Rhodes, anchor on Fox 13’s Good Day Tampa Bay, hosted and acts ranged from cover songs, like Vonabell Sherman’s rendition of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep,” to original songs written and performed by the contenstants (Jillian Stein and Sheldon Steele).
