’s Nancy McIntyre succumbed to cancer July 29 at age 61, The St. Petersburg Times reports.

“Nancy McIntyre was a redheaded, big-hearted, big-voiced giant,” the Times report says.

During her 18 years at the Fine Art Center, the Times says she is credited with creating the children’s museum, expanding the community arts program and “expertly navigating the sometimes-strained tensions between artists and the people who pay them."

McIntyre is survived by husband David Shankweiler and brother Francis G. McIntyre. Memorial services are yet to be scheduled.
