How did you get started?

"I started playing guitar when I was 9, and I've been singing my whole life in church and school choirs."

Where can people hear your music?

"My band, Between Bluffs, plays every first Thursday at the Jolli Mons, and every second Thursday at Dunedin House of Beer. I'm also part of a duo with Michael Nichols called Mad Happy."

What keeps you doing it?

"I'm always tapping on something or humming a tune. Music is a constant learning experience, and I'm grateful to be surrounded by high-quality musicians who are always teaching me new things."

What are your greatest inspirations?

"I'm inspired by little things, and I try to take advantage of life — it's only a series of moments. I'm also inspired by people making positive change in the world, not getting discouraged by thinking they're too small to make an impact."

Any advice for budding musicians?

"Don't give up. Don't let discouraging words hold you back. Find your own path, and make your own sound.  You may not be able to play like (Jimi) Hendrix, but Hendrix can't play like you either."

Catch Jerrod Simpson this at Jolli Mons from 3 to 7 p.m;  No cover.
