Festival founder Marsha Goins said the Orange Festival, now in its second year, was conceived as a way to bring people to Dunedin during the quieter period of the year.

“We have festivals in the fall and in the spring, but we needed something in the slower summertime,” she said.

The Orange Festival is Saturday. It features live music, a scavenger hunt and the crowning of Dunedin's Orange Queen.

“It’s a family-friendly event with a fun zone for the kids," Goins said. "We even have a dunk tank, and the mayor is the first one in.”
