Report: Blue Jays' Relocation From Dunedin Could Be Imminent

The Houston Astros have all but finalized their own deal to find a new spring training home in Palm Beach Gardens, where they would share a stadium with the Blue Jays, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The Toronto Blue Jays could soon finalize their move from Dunedin to Palm Beach Gardens and a new spring training home, according to a report Thursday in the Houston Chronicle.

The Houston Astros are close to wrapping up their own deal to relocate from Kissimmee, Astros team owner Jim Crane told the Chronicle, and his team would share a new stadium with the Blue Jays in Palm Beach Gardens.

“We’re down to the final approval with the city,” Crane told the newspaper. “The state’s approved the money."

The Astros' lease at Osceola County Stadium expires in 2016, and Crane voiced displeasure with the facilities there.

Similarly, Blue Jays ownership has expressed a desire for updated practice fields that would be adjacent to their spring stadium, unlike their current setup at Dunedin's Florida Auto Exchange Stadium, where their lease is up in 2017.

The Blue Jays began hinting at a possible move in May, with Dunedin leaders saying they were working on a plan to keep the team at its spring training home since 1977.

Dunedin Patch readers have been divided on whether the Blue Jays should stick around.
