5 Ideas for the Weekend in Dunedin

We found some things to do this weekend and they include everything from a sunset music concert to celebrating a canine military veteran and taking a Jolley Trolley tour to some local shops.

Sunset Concert at Weaver Park

  • When: Friday, May 17, starting at 7 p.m.
  • Where: Weaver Park
  • Why Go? Catch a concert and a sunset each Friday through May. This week's show is Dunedin's own blues-soul-acoustic group the Wendy Barmore Band. Bring a chair, blanket and the family for an evening under the stars. (More info.)

After Party: Derek Teele Memorial Golf Tournament

  • When: Saturday, May 18 from 9 p.m. to midnight
  • Where: The Dunedin Smokehouse
  • Why Go? Jeriko Turnpike performs and the Wild Turkey Honey girls are scheduled from 9 to 10:30 p.m. for a post-golf tournament party open to the public. Visors, koozies, and bracelets will be sold for the Derek Teele Foundation, a non-profit that donates to local organizations in memory of the Smokehouse and Living Room's nephew, a 17-year-old who died in a car crash in May 2007.

Vote Party: Eddie for American Hero Dog

  • When: Saturday, May 18 at 3 p.m.
  • Where: Sea Dog Brew Pub, 26200 US Highway 19 N, Clearwater
  • Why Go? This 6-year-old military working dog at MacDill Air Force Base, with a nose for explosives, saved the lives of 13 U.S. service members, as well as his handler Staff Sgt. Shannon Hutto while deployed in Afghanistan. A Dunedin woman organized a "vote party" for Eddie and hopes to raise awareness to the life-saving work that dogs like Eddie do. She's also collecting dog toys and Kongs for all the dogs at MacDill. (More info.)

Back to the '80s Scavenger Hunt and Pub Crawl

  • When: Saturday, May 18, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Sunday, May 19
  • Where: Meets in Pioneer Park, participating pubs include Chic-A-Boom Room, Dunedin Brewery, Dunedin Smokehouse, Flanagan's Irish Pub, and Rosie's Tavern.
  • Why Go? This annual event brings back the 1980s for a night to raise money for Dunedin-based Family Network on Disabilities. It includes a scavenger hunt, pub crawl, costume contest, dance-off, 50/50 raffle and a live concert with Rubix Cubed. (More info.)

Garden-to-Beer Trolley Tour 2013

  • When: Sunday, May 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Where: Meets at Eagle Scout Park (must purchase tickets in advance)
  • Why Go? This three-hour Jolley Trolley tour takes folks around to businesses with locally-produced merchandise, food and beverages. The tour aims to educate consumers on how to be smarter about buying locally produced items and what questions to ask while shopping. Stops include: the Dunedin Community Garden, J.J. Gandy's, Jensen Bros Seafood and 7venth Sun Brewing (with Bee Branch Creek Apiaries). (More info.)
